Fur Brigade Trail Viewpoint

Peachland

30 min from Downtown Kelowna
Meadow Valley Rd, Peachland, BC V0H 1X9

This track, originally part of the route used by the Hudson Bay Company fur traders to transport furs, goods, and supplies from Fort Vancouver is a unique route that spans hundreds of Kilometres across the province.

However, this scenic walk takes hikers along a double-wide trail to a phenomenal viewpoint of Okanagan Lake, Rattlesnake Island, as well as hints of Peachland.

The trail has numerous forks, so we do recommend taking our GPS log on a mobile phone. However, there are ample signs of usage. Primarily follow signs reading "Seasonal Route" with a green circle inside a red ring. At the summit there is a large clearing with a sign clearly stating "Fur Brigade Trail." No vehicle traffic is permitted on these roads between January 1 and April 30th annually.

Detailed Directions

1) From downtown Kelowna head towards Penticton across the bridge.
2) Turn RIGHT just past Peachland onto Hardy St as if going to Hardy Falls.
3) Continue as the road arcs left and turns into gravel stating "No Through Road"
4) The road becomes "Thorne Rd" and then "Meadow Valley Rd"
5) Park just before BC Orchards at the top of the hill at the major 4x4ing track heading to the left. Notice a sign mentioning "Seasonal Route." This is Garnet Lake Rd. Hike up this route along the ridgeline of the mountain, keeping left-ish at most major forks. The beginning of the trail has a track that parallels it just a few meters to the left.

GPS Notes
Most often when viewing our maps, trails marked in Green or Blue have been human-verified by our volunteers. A route in purple indicates an overgrown trail or a bushwhack. Otherwise, the tracks may have been satellite traced or imported from third party sources. While we strongly believe our GPS are accurate, please be aware that no logging system is perfect and to be aware of potential errors.

Did this April 14, 2018, 13C and overcast skies. Only found some patches of snow closer to the top, but they were off the track and easily avoidable. Bring some good shoes, as there are some little streams that cross the track, and muddy spots. Some flat spots, but generally, a steady incline all the way to the top. Lots of deer poop, so watch where you're stepping! Also one or two spots where there's been crumbling of rocks on to the track. Trail is marked and easily followed, as per description. Parking seems limited. Vehicle access (4x4) further up starting May 1 (forgot closing date, sorry). Will do this again on a sunny day.

is the hike at 10am or 11am? here it says 11am, but facebook page said 10am?

are some of you willing to carpool and/or car share, given there are so many going and limited parking space? if yes, i suggest that we can meet up at Orchard Plaza (springfield road) and go from there? if we leave around 10:15 - 10:20am time, any takers?
